is an assistant professor at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa. She is the founding director of the Networked Systems and Communications Research (NETCORE) laboratory. She is also a courtesy assistant professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY, where she was a tenure-track assistant professor prior to joining University of Ottawa. She received her Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 2009 and 2004, respectively. During her Ph.D. studies, she was a Fulbright visiting researcher at the Computer Science Department of the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). She has over 100 peer-reviewed publications which have been cited over 3000 times and she has an h-index of 29. She has received the IEEE Communication Society Best Tutorial Paper Award and the Best Editor Award of the IEEE Multimedia Communications Technical Committee in 2017. She is the co-editor of two books: “Smart Grid: Networking, Data Management, and Business Models” and “Transportation and Power Grid in Smart Cities: Communication Networks and Services” published by CRC Press and Wiley, respectively. She has delivered seven tutorials and more than 20 invited talks around the globe. She is an editor of the IEEE Communications Letters and IEEE Access. She has acted as the general chair or technical program chair for many international conferences and workshops. She is a senior member of the IEEE and the past vice-chair for Women in Engineering (WIE) at the IEEE Ottawa Section. She is currently the vice-chair of Green Smart Grid Communications special interest group of IEEE Technical Committee on Green Communications and Computing. She is also the research group leader for IEEE Smart Grid and Big Data Standardization. Her main research interests are AI-enabled networks, 5G and beyond wireless networks, smart grid, electric vehicles and Internet of things.
